Assignment context
The focused investigation addressed observed honeycombing, local spalling, delamination and other visible concrete deficiencies within a Level 6 transfer slab. The objective was to document existing conditions, assess severity and identify whether further investigation was required before determining an appropriate remedial strategy.
Site investigation
- Map the extent, location and depth of honeycombing, spalling and delamination.
- Review coring and service penetrations relative to the expected reinforcement layout.
- Identify areas requiring additional nondestructive or destructive investigation.
Engineering assessment
The assessment considers potential effects on concrete cover, durability, serviceability and local capacity. Where visual evidence is insufficient, further work may include concrete sounding, GPR scanning, concrete-strength testing, coring or laboratory testing.
Remedial planning
Repair planning should follow verified assessment. The process includes defining removal limits, confirming reinforcement condition, identifying compatible repair materials and methods, and arranging field review during implementation. The original focused investigation did not itself include final repair design or strengthening design.
